ELIZA CARVING

Here is a name plaque I have have just finish for my friend Hannah. Hannah and her husband Maurice recently lost there little baby Eliza Stephanie Rose Dunphy

I found this piece of lime which was ideal for the job. The fact that the bark is still on it, really enhances the overall look. The lime is on the whole a good wood to carve. But this particular piece kept splintering, so it was hard to get the letter really sharp like you can get with oak. Also I was told at my carving class, it might have something to do with the chisels not being sharp enough.

Everyone who I have talked to, all say the say thing about sharping chisels. Sharping chisels is a skill in itself and takes a real long time to master.
